Things

It rained, or rather sprinkled, in the Las Vegas way. Pat and I sat outside in the backyard letting the drops fall on our skin while Irina and Silas played. Sometimes the two of them take my breath away. The way Silas plays a shooting game with himself, falls to the ground and declares himself "died." Irina swinging on the swingset and singing her made-up pop songs at the top of her lungs. She's got all of the right phrases but together they don't make a lot of sense. She makes up for it with enthusiasm.

Last night, on our way home from the grocery store, I told Pat to watch out for what I thought was a cat crossing the road in front of us. As we got closer, I thought it was a small dog, like a chihuahua or something. I got just enough of a look at it as we passed to realize it was a coyote. Edit: No, not a coyote. That's too big. A desert fox, which is much smaller and has big ears, which is why I thought of a chihuahua probably. I wish I had gotten a better look at it.

Today we went out to purchase birthday gifts for Saren, who is about to turn 14, regardless of whether I think that much time has passed or not. (I do not.)
