In Which I Write About Many Different, Not Necessarily Related Things
So, Pat has had his Sev job for a couple of weeks now. Overall, I'm not liking it. On the one hand, it's good to have that little bit of extra money, even if it is just a little bit. On the other hand, I seem to feel unhappy whether he's working or not working. If he's not working, I'm thinking that we could really use just a leeeeetle bit more and if he is working, I feel sad that he's not with us, and frustrated with the full load of childcare on me all day long.
Which, I realize, may make me sound ungrateful and whiny, after all, it's not me who has to wake up early and go to work, only to go to another work directly after getting off of the first job. But, most days I look forward to the time when he gets home, not just because he's home and we're all together again, but because I can take a break. I can go upstairs and go online to read blogs or I can read for a bit, or even just fold the laundry (impossible unless Silas is asleep or on a separate level of the house).
I love being home with my kids and I'm far better suited to being the at-home parent anyway, but I really wish we didn't so desperately need this extra money right now. My biggest desire at the moment is for our situation to change for the better by the end of the year so that he doesn't need to work two jobs for us to make ends meet. One way or another. There are possibilities. We'll see what happens.
Also, Saren wants me to let you all know that she came back from her trip, lest my blog readers (all five of you) be led astray. She's actually been back for almost a week. A week tomorrow. This whole week she's gone to bed way earlier (and woken up earlier) than usual because she's still getting back on her normal schedule. It's nice to be able to hang out with her before early afternoon though. It's also nice just having her back. It was strange to not have my oldest child around. Like there was a missing piece.
Yesterday the kids and I were outside and I decided to fill up the watering hole for the tortoises. Silas was all over that. In fact they all enjoy a little mud now and then. Or a lot.

Not Back to School
Today our unschooling group had it's annual Not-Back-to-School party. This post would be a lot more interesting if I had remembered my camera. The kids had a great time though, and there was hula hooping, playing in the water at the splash pad, face painting, markers, beading, food, bubbles, and balloons. Plus, the weather has been very cooperative, cooling off by about ten degrees or so for the past few days.
School started here on Monday. If my kids were in school, this year all of them but Silas would be in school. I'm preeeeetty sure that our local elementary school has all-day kindergarten, so even Irina would be gone for most of the day. That's so crazy. I'm so thankful for my kids' ability to sleep as long as they need to, to eat when they want to, to go to the bathroom when they want to, to do things that they themselves chose to do. I'm so glad they spent the day running around in the water and sunshine, playing with friends, and generally enjoying life.
