Hello, I write about the same things Pat does. This is because we live together. My perspective is different though.
When Harper was born, Saren had night terrors three nights in a row that sent her screaming bloody murder and running into our room from hers (we didn't co-sleep with her then) in the middle of the night. I have never experienced anything more frightening than being awoken from a deep sleep by the sound of my child screaming in terror. I bolted up from laying down to standing on the bed saying, "OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD!!" and didn't remember how I got to that position. It took ages before the adrenaline died down. Harper (who did sleep in our bed with us and was only about 2 or 3 weeks old) slept through it.
When Irina was born, Harper didn't have any issues, or at least she didn't broadcast them.
When Silas was born, Irina suddenly decided the potty was scariest thing in the world and refused to use it. Then she threw a magnet (with about the heft of a small rock) at her sister's head minutes after said sister returned from a three day camping trip during which Irina missed her terribly. The magnet hit her sister on the head and then bounced behind her to hit the sliding glass door in such a way that it shattered into thousands of tiny, tiny pieces.
Is this Irina reacting to a usurping of her place as the baby? Or coincidence? I know she didn't *mean* to break the door. But I keep thinking about the night terrors that Saren went through and putting this into the same category. And I keep thinking that someday in the future we're going to talk about this by saying, "Remember when Silas was only a couple of weeks old and Irina broke the sliding glass door?" Hahahahahahaha. Just like we laugh now about the screaming terror of when Harper was only a few weeks old.
Let me tell you, though, right now it really sucks. At least it's fixed now so the depression and upset is fading somewhat. I'd feel a ton better if we had been able to afford it, but at least the funds were in the bank, regardless of how they were meant for something completely different, actually a couple of different things depending on which was more important when the time came. I was leaning toward food. Oh well. Hahaha?

I like Pat's suggestion that your whole family do Rashmon-style entries.
Maybe it was a combination of things. Like, she's trying to get used to this new person, and then half of her usual people disappear.
And. Um. Considering that the door broke, how's Saren's head?
bemister
Even good life changes are stressful. I imagine when you are four that is true times one gazillion. My burning question is, did the magnet survive?
Try thinking of the fact that the money was in the bank as a sign that you always have what you need, not that the money was "supposed" to be for food. The money for the food will be there when you need it for food more than you need it for fixing broken windows. Actually, the money did come when you needed it to Pat from that guy in the store! Yay Universe!
Saren's head was fine, though I'm sure she would have complained more if the hurt hadn't been completely eclipsed by the door breaking.
The magnet did survive just fine, though for a short while I couldn't find it and thought it may have been swept up and thrown away with the glass, but it had just been moved to a different location. By Irina.
I was actually just thinking about how whenever something like this happens, the money is always available in some form. We've never been faced with an emergency with absolutely no money anywhere to pay for it. So it's great for the moment, but the problem is it always puts us more into debt or takes away from something else. I think the universe needs some fine tuning. ;)
... I would not have complained more ):
Oh, you know, I think Silas was sleeping when Irina threw the magnet, and slept through it? Just like Harper was when I had night-terrors? (*giggles at the word 'night-terrors'*).. Actually though, now that I think about it, I think Silas woke up when we moved from the living room too the bedroom?.. Or maybe he was awake the whole time. I already can't remember.
Also, can I ask a stupid and off-topic question? What's a Rashmon-style-thingy?
Rashomon is a Japanese movie from the 1950s that tells the same story (of a murder, I think), but from four different points-of-view. It was one of the first movies to do something like that. So hearing the same events told from different perspectives is sorta Rashomon-esque.
And, oddly enough, I've never seen the movie, but I've added it to our queue at the library, so we'll have to check it out. :)
